miss kraken

About the Book

Miss Kraken by Nicki Greenberg is a funny picture book about an unusual primary-school teacher and her badly behaved class.

When the children first meet Miss Kraken, they decide that she is cranky, strict and strange. But as the story unfolds, the illustrations reveal another side of the classroom: Miss Kraken is a long-suffering octopus trying to cope with a group of unruly human children.

A Funny Classroom Adventure

Miss Kraken has plenty of rules, but the children's behaviour gives her good reason to be strict. During a class excursion to the aquarium, however, Miss Kraken disappears. She has had enough and decides that she is not coming back to school.

The children soon discover that getting a new teacher may not be the solution they expected. Their new teacher, Mr Carnivore, turns out to be even more fierce.

The story uses the contrast between the children's view of their teacher and what the illustrations show to create humour and unexpected consequences.
